PSYCHOTHERAPY & COACHING SERVICES

Guiding  positive transformation  and unlocking the full potential
within each individual through the pillars of:

Behavioral Therapy

Enhancing Functionality

Behavioral strategies can help neurodivergent individuals improve their functionality in various settings. For example, implementing a structured routine can assist someone with ADHD in staying organized and completing tasks efficiently.

Reducing Anxiety

Neurodivergent individuals often experience heightened levels of anxiety in certain situations. Utilizing coping mechanisms such as deep breathing exercises or mindfulness techniques can help alleviate anxiety and promote emotional regulation. Behavioral strategies help neurodivergent individuals know when and how to include these practical strategies.

Improving Social Skills

Many neurodivergent individuals may struggle with social interactions. Behavioral strategies like perspective taking and understanding how our thoughts can sometimes mislead us can aid in developing and refining social skills, making social interactions more manageable and less daunting.

Increasing Independence

By learning and implementing behavioral strategies, neurodivergent individuals can become more independent in daily tasks and activities. For instance, breaking down complex tasks into smaller, more manageable steps can empower individuals to navigate tasks independently. There are fun ways to break down tasks and your motivation for completing these is important.

Managing Sensory Sensitivities

Neurodivergent individuals often have heightened sensory sensitivities, which can lead to overwhelm and distress. Employing strategies such as creating sensory-friendly environments or using noise-canceling headphones can help manage sensory input and promote comfort and focus. We can create your own sensory profile and work within this framework to create a sensory-safe environment for you OR coping skills for those times you can’t accommodate the very typical environment around you.

Mindfulness

Emotional Regulation

Mindfulness practices can help neurodivergent individuals regulate their emotions more effectively. By increasing awareness of our thoughts and feelings without judgment, individuals can develop healthier coping mechanisms for managing stress and anxiety.

Improved Focus and Attention

Neurodivergent individuals often struggle with maintaining focus and attention. Mindfulness techniques, such as focused breathing exercises or body scans, can enhance concentration and attention span over time.

Reduced Sensory Overload

Many neurodivergent individuals experience sensory sensitivities (as previously mentioned) that can lead to overwhelm in stimulating environments. Mindfulness practices, like grounding exercises or sensory mindfulness, can help individuals manage sensory input and reduce feelings of distress.

Enhanced Self-Awareness

Mindfulness encourages individuals to tune into their thoughts, feelings, and bodily sensations in the present moment. This increased self-awareness can empower neurodivergent individuals to better understand their strengths, challenges, and needs, leading to improved self-advocacy and self-care.

Stress Reduction

Neurodivergent individuals often face unique stressors related to social interactions, sensory sensitivities, and cognitive differences. Mindfulness techniques, such as progressive muscle relaxation or guided imagery, can promote relaxation and resilience in the face of stressors, improving overall well-being.

We incorporate mindfulness that works for each individual. Personally I struggle to sit still for more than 5 minutes if I am not busy with my special interests. So, keeping that in mind, mindfulness for me looks different than most people. We will get what works for you!"

My approach to increasing confidence and self-esteem and supporting individuals in managing their anxiety more successfully includes a systematic 5-step approach.

Self-Awareness

Being self-aware enables us to understand

our unique strengths, challenges, and needs, fostering a determination to provide strategies for these areas. It is the first step, but the most important one - we need to understand who WE are and truly get to know our own quirks and needs.

3

Self-Regulation

It is essential for neurodivergent adults to regulate their own needs and sensitivities.

It enables them to manage their emotions, behaviors, and sensory experiences in various situations, fostering better self-control and adaptability. By developing effective self-regulation skills, neurodivergent adults can navigate challenges more effectively, enhance their relationships, and achieve their goals

with greater success and satisfaction.

5

Self-Advocacy

Self-advocacy is paramount for neurodivergent adults as it empowers them to assert their needs, rights, and preferences in various settings, ensuring access to accommodations, support, and opportunities for success. By advocating for themselves, neurodivergent adults can challenge stigma, promote inclusivity, and advocate for systemic changes that benefit not only themselves but also the broader neurodivergent community.

2

Self-Discovery (learning)

It is vital for neurodivergent adults to learn about themselves, their condition and what this means to their own life as it allows them to explore and understand their cognitive differences, preferences, and capabilities, empowering them to leverage their strengths effectively. Through continuous self-discovery, neurodivergent adults can cultivate a deeper sense of identity, resilience, and adaptability, leading to greater self-confidence and fulfillment in both personal and professional endeavors.

4

Self-Love/Acceptance

Self-acceptance or self-love is crucial for neurodivergent adults as it fosters a sense of belonging, worthiness, and validation, promoting mental well-being and resilience in the face of societal stigma and discrimination. Embracing oneself fully, including one's neurodivergent traits, allows individuals to cultivate confidence, authenticity, and compassion towards themselves, leading to a more fulfilling and empowered life journey.

WHAT OTHER PROFESSIONALS AND MY CLIENTS ARE SAYING

KN’s Rating: ★ ★ ★ ★ ★

"Karla is fantastic, I was looking forward to the session as I knew it was something I wanted/needed to work on, but was also very apprehensive and nervous as it's not something I have done before, she made me instantly relaxed and was very encouraging. I really feel it will help me and give me tools to work on our issues going forward, I'm looking forward to the next session already".
